Very cool image. I love how the snow is showing underneath the leaves. My first thought was that it was sand, and I had to read your description again to really get it.
One other thought--my initial inclination, had I come upon this scene, would have been to shoot straight down the path, so that it would hit the vanishing point right in the center of the image. But you've done the better treatment, I think. The path and the sun provide counter weight to each other, giving a nice center-balanced picture without be obviously composed like I probably would have at first.
